- step one: pick your story.
- brainstorm who you want to interview for story.always interview student regardless of story.Keep interviews with adults to a minimum. THINK OUTTA THE BOX.
- come up with a set of questions you could ask people. Don't ask questions that can be answered with a yes or no. Write questions that are open ended. Write different sets of questions for different people
- listen carefully to what the subject is saying.If they give you an opening take it. Have a conversation.
- go to editor and discuss expectations of the story you are writing about.Communicate with editor to discuss how much you should write. Average story is about half a page in microsoft word. 10pt font.
- come up with outline form about what the story is about and is going to go. Quote-transition style. go back to question to help with statements.
- Do interview
- write the body first.Always try to the piece the middle of the story first and then figure out the lead and ending.
- write lead. first 5 words the most crucial in the story.
- finish story. DON'T MISS DEADLINE!!!!!!!
